Darn Nice Set

I spent an eternity looking at the different impact driver kits available from Makita, DeWalt, Milwaukee, and Ryobi. Do I buy a kit, or do I buy individual pieces? Oh the pain of shopping for these, it took me almost an hour to decide.
My final choice was this Milwaukee kit. After using these for a few months, I can say these are really rugged solid bits. The black coating on the end of the bits gives the bit extra bite and the bit tends to stay in the slot better. In comparing bits between those other vendors, Milwaukee was at about the same price, the kit had everything I wanted; the construction looked much better than the others, and the case was a nice bonus. That plastic small parts box on the left is pretty darn nice and convenient. The plastic is thick and rugged. The case is about four inches long, three inches wide, and two inches thick. It’s a healthy size – the slide lock works well.
There are a couple of bits in here that I’ll never use – that crazy flat blade with a little tiny Philips bump in the middle. The Torx, square, and all those Philips and slot sizes are great. The drill bits are kind of a bonus. For the quick random job, they work. They’re perfectly centered, and work fine in the hex chuck. I guess they would work well in a drill also, making sure the bit will never twist in the chuck.
The socket adapters work just fine. The Makita impact driver I have doesn’t have enough power to remove lug bolts from a car. But I was able to use it to change snow tires after I used a breaker bar to loosen the lug bolts. The spring loaded ball holds sockets on really well. The 1/2 and 3/8 square socket drives are great.
I bought this to work with my new Makita drill and driver kit. This was one of those fantastic Father’s day presents. I’m the luckiest Dad in the world.

shockwave impact bit

The Shockwave kit seems ok. There should be more long bits, and not so many short ones. There are only 2 Long”driver” bits in it, one is a philips, the other a square drive bit. There should be at least one torx bit, because many wood screws now come in torx. It seems a little overpriced for what you get. It does come in a nice case, and i like the hex drive drill bits. They don’t seem to last any longer than other bits. I stripped a torx, and a sq drive today driving 3″ wood screws.
